A coxed boat has a cox, a non-rowing crew member who steers, calls technique cues, and controls race strategy by communicating with the crew. A coxless boat is steered by one of the rowers using a foot-controlled rudder, with no dedicated cox position in the boat.

At the catch, the rower sits forward with shins vertical, arms extended, and blade fully buried in the water. The drive begins by pushing the legs down first, then swinging the back open, and finally drawing the arms in to finish with the handle at the chest. Leg drive generates around 60 percent of the power.

Apply a flat teal as the base with the fill tool, then use the brush in slightly darker and lighter blue-green tones to add horizontal ripple lines across the river. A very soft white spray along the edges of each ripple mimics how sunlight catches gently moving water.
